Six competitors selected for the Finals

Six competitors will continue in the finals of the Fourth International Maj Lind Piano Competition (17–31 August 2017) in Helsinki. They are:

Bouterey-Ishido, Jun (New Zealand)
In, So Hyang (South Korea)
Kim, Jiyoung (South Korea)
Melemed, Mackenzie (United States)
Park, Hyo-Eun (South Korea)

The finals will be on 27–31 August (Concert Hall): the chamber music finals on 27 August and orchestral finals on 30–31 August. The prizes will be awarded after the finals on 31 August.

The quartets in the chamber music finals will be the Tempera and the New Helsinki.

The orchestra in the finals will be the Helsinki Philharmonic conducted by Anna-Maria Helsing.

The orchestral finals will be transmitted live to the new media wall of the Helsinki Music Centre overlooking the Kansalaistori square. They will be the first event to be projected onto the media wall. Kansalaistori is the park-like square between the Helsinki Music Centre and Kiasma and is open free to the public.

The whole competition will be streamed worldwide by the Finnish Broadcasting Company (Yle) and broadcast in Finland on Yle Radio 1 and the Teema & Fem TV channel.

comissioned work by Outi Tarkiainen

The commissioned work for the competition was composed by Outi Tarkiainen. Competitors may, in the second round, alternatively improvise on a theme. The theme is issued 20 minutes before performance.
