Björn Lehmann

Björn Lehmann’s musical activities range from solo performances to chamber music and Lied and also include a lot of activities in the field of contemporary music. He has often participated in world premieres. Since 2011, Björn Lehmann has worked as Professor of Piano at Berlin University of the Arts (UdK Berlin).

After having studied with Peter-Jürgen Hofer and Ralf Nattkemper in Hamburg and Fausto Zadra in Lausanne, he continued his studies in UdK Berlin with Klaus Hellwig. Björn Lehmann has been artistically influenced by Zoltán Kocsis, Leonard Hokanson, Robert Levin, Ferenc Rados, members of the Amadeus Quartet, Hartmut Höll and Irwin Gage as well as by the Lied classes of Wolfram Rieger and Axel Bauni. Concert activities have taken Lehmann through numerous European countries, Latin America, Japan, South Korea and China. He has appeared at many international festivals, among them the Tokyo Spring Festival, Rheingau Music Festival, Munich Biennale, Musikfestwoche Meiringen, Concentus Moraviae, Flâneries Musicales de Reims, and the piano festival En Blanco y Negro in Mexico.

He has made solo and chamber music recordings for several record labels as well as broadcasting and TV companies. Since 2009 he has participated extensively in the concert activities of the Piano duo Takahashi | Lehmann together with Norie Takahashi. So far, they have released four CDs which have received high praise in international music magazines, such as being nominated CD of the Month in the German magazine Fono Forum and in the Japanese magazine Record Geijutsu. Their last CD contains the Brandenburg Concertos by Bach in the transcription of Reger. Lehmann’s interest in contemporary music has allowed him to collaborate frequently with composers. He has worked intensively with Friedrich Goldmann, Arnulf Herrmann and Mathias Spahlinger, among others. He frequently gives master classes in Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, Japan, South Korea and China, and participates in juries of international piano competitions.
